Every
single seat was taken. Mind you, this was the
story for every single appearance during this
tour. Hayley Westenra, youngest ever female
artist to take on a full UK tour, and every
venue a sell-out! Didn't she do well?
I bet there are many, many fans, newly converted
and long-term alike, who will be waiting to see
you on your very next tour.. Please don't make
us wait too long. |
|
During
the interval, we managed to meet up with the
lovely Holly Holyoake and her mum Trixie...
Another highly talented young singer to keep
an eye out for! |

After
the show, (above left) a fan requests Kathrine
Jenkins' autograph while several other fans
wait patiently in line. I had another job
to do, so only managed to take this one shot
(above right).

Having
been ushered through the building and out to
the back of St. David's, I waited with Keith,
Chris, Roger, Gareth, Holly, Holly's mum Trixie
and her dad, chatting for what seemed like
an age. To while away the time, Roger asked
if I'd use my "influence"
to ask Holly if she'd sing for us. One quick whispered
request later, and she readily agreed. Having turned
to ask her mum which song she should sing, Holly
treated us to an impromptu rendition, a capella.
Instantly, the night felt that much warmer. Nice
one Holly, we'll not forget you in a hurry (and
no time to warm up either), nor shall we forget
your Mum (Or your Dad, who didn't get the chance
to say much did he? And I never did catch his name) |

|
Roger
requested I "use my influence" to
approach Holly and ask if she'd sing something
for us "a capella". With no hesitation
at all, save to ask mum which of theirfavourites
she should perform, Holly burst into song.
Having now heard her "live", as opposed
to on her album, my feelings about her were
more than adequately strenghtened... A lovely
voice, and despite the cold night air, a veritable
Nightingale (and not in Berkley Square - old
joke). |

|
Eventually
we were asked inside again, and dodging the
guys moving the kit out, entered the back door
to find Hayley signing merrily away. She soon
spotted us, and once again we were treated
to one of her lovely wide smiles. This was
the first time I'd seen, let alone met, the
two smaller Westenra's, Sophie and Isaac. Just
like the rest of the family, polite, well-spoken
and appreciative of the attention. No hesitation
in lining up for their photographs either.
Nice to have met you at last. |

Gary
Scovil met his new "favourite" singer,
having been well and truly imprssed by her
performance. |

The
most important task of the night... giving
Hayley her birthday cards and gifts. We were
joined by Holly, the two girls getting along
famously. Well, there is less than a year's
difference in their ages! |
|
|
|
Shortly
after I'd given Hayley our birthday gift and
cards, Keith presented her with his own very
special gift from HWI, and on behalf of every
one of her fans. Yes, Hayley now has her very
own bright royal blue HWI jersey.
I guess that makes her a fully-fledged member of
the HWI team! Better watch my step!! |

The
theatre staff would have liked to go home,
but Hayley (and family) were in chatty mood. |
|
|
|
Well
over half an hour later, we were still chatting
away with Gerald and Jill... The two younger
ones decided to sit outside and wait... very
patient they were too.

Finally,
one last picture of - left to right - Jill,
Chris, Hayley and Gerald... The end of a wonderful
evening not to be soon forgotten, if ever!
